If this is the first time you are voting, congratulations!
You are about to exercise one of your most important and powerful rights. Here
are a few tips to keep in mind before you go to the polls:
If you do not receive your voting card
in the mail, call the Board of Elections at 212-487-5300. If you are still
unable to resolve the problem after calling the Board, please contact us
via E-mail: info@manzano.org
If you did receive the voting card,
look at the ED number. That is the number of your Election District. You
will see that ED number again on the machine you will be voting on. There's
another number -- you will see on your card -- the AD (Assembly District)
number. Some polling places have people from various ADs voting there.
Just match the ED and AD numbers on the card to the numbers on the machine.
That will be your machine. If in doubt, ask one of the workers.
Your name should be in one of the registration
books at one of the desks at your polling place. If not, ask for and "Affidavit
Ballot." PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT VOTING.
Before casting your vote, read the
instructions. Don't be afraid to ask an inspector to show you how to use
the machine. That's why they are there -- to help you. Here's How to Vote:
Close
the curtain behind you.
Pull the handle of the long red lever (the one by your legs) to your right. Pull
it ONLY ONCE -- and then STOP. The machine is now set up to record your vote.
Look at the names on the ballot. Vote for your candidates by pulling down the
small levers next to the names you want. Pull gently counter-clockwise until
an X appears. The X must be below the candidate's name.
If you make a mistake, just push the little lever back up and pull down the lever
you really want.
When you have finished picking the candidates of your choice -- then and ONLY
then -- pull the long red lever back to the left. Pull it ONLY once. The machine
has now recorded your vote.
CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for voting!
